Genece Davis ’16 had always pictured herself as an East Coast girl. Then, she began her final semester at ELA and something clicked. “When I toured the Dolby Theatre a few days before the Oscars, it was magical,” said Davis. “The Academy Awards director let me and a few students stand behind the microphone where people accept their awards. It was surreal standing in a spot where people’s dreams come true.”

          The LA Experience

During her semester at ELA, Davis interned at Plan B Entertainment, Brad Pitt’s production company, which has co-produced films like 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight. The incredible experience helped open up many doors for the Houston native. At ELA, Davis attended as many professional development panels as she could. "ELA really focuses on helping students transition from the college experience to life in the real world," she said.

          Working Toward the Future

After graduating, Davis started the trainee program at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. After a couple months in the mailroom, she landed in the TV Literary Department. She now works in the Books to Film Department servicing the production companies of WME clients such as Michael B. Jordan and Gal Gadot. “Getting agency experience has been invaluable because I’m learning by building on the complex concepts I learned about in school,” Davis said. She credits ELA with helping her get to where she is. “Students should come to ELA because of the doors it can open up for them.”
